Description

In this illustrated children’s book, your child travels with Gregory, a small yellow bird. He paddles along behind his sister who follows their brother. All three follow their mother in single file around the marsh. Their journey through the marsh bores Gregory.
He sees so many birds, so many channels. His curiosity causes him to strike out on his own. He wants to investigate, to know everything about the marsh. Gregory paddles along scooping tasty seeds and insects from the mud with his broad, flat bill.
A thirst for knowledge starts Gregory and your child on his marsh adventure.
He meets three birds on his adventure, a kingfisher, a great blue heron and a Virginia rail. They prefer their solitude as they fish and hunt for food. Answering the many questions of a little yellow pest irritates them. All three birds warn him the marsh is a dangerous place for a little bird on his own. He suspects they only want to frighten him with tales of the snapping turtle.
He soon learns the dangers are real. He passes what looks like the tip of a sunken branch. The branch rises out of the water to become a snapping turtle. It opens its huge jaws. Gregory escapes just before the jaws snap shut on him.
Alone and terrified, he paddles along wishing he had never left his mother.
The adventure ends when his mother finds him. His mother tells him he is a Canada goose. They love going on adventures. He will go on many great adventures when he grows up. He ends the day peacefully sleeping in his nest.
